Local Provider Spotlight: Frisky Feline Behavior Counseling

Understanding your pet’s behavior is crucial for their overall well-being. It serves as a significant indicator of their mood, physical health, and how they cope with stress, akin to human experiences.

Cats, in particular, can exhibit challenging behaviors such as urinating outside the litter box, scratching furniture, and loud cries. While these actions may be bothersome, they often signify underlying issues. Feline behavior is intricate and requires expert intervention to decipher and address effectively.

In light of this, we’ve teamed up with Amanda Caron, the expert feline behaviorist behind Frisky Feline Behavior Counseling. Her mission? To redefine the understanding between cats and their human families.

Bridging the Gap in Feline Behavior

A Passion for Feline Behavior

Amanda Caron’s professional journey in animal behavior started in 2014 when she assumed the role of a daycare counselor at a dog daycare and boarding facility. This position was a rewarding introduction to the world of animal behavior and set the stage for her future endeavors.

In 2016, Amanda took a significant step by completing her first comprehensive training program in dog behavior. This training provided valuable insights into animal communication and the intricate relationships we share with our pets, laying the foundation for her career.

The Cat Connection

By February 2017, Amanda’s path had taken an intriguing turn when her cat began counter-surfing, presenting a behavioral challenge. Like many pet owners, she faced this puzzle without clear guidance. Determined to find answers, Amanda embarked on a mission to address this behavior. Through dedication and hard work, she successfully trained her cat with cues like “off” and “here,” demonstrating the potential for positive change in feline behavior.

This success ignited Amanda’s passion for feline behavior, leading her to immerse herself in the world of cat behavior. Self-study and a relentless pursuit of knowledge have been her guiding principles. Over the past eight years, she has completed over a dozen educational courses in feline behavior and modification through esteemed organizations such as the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, the American Association of Feline Practitioners, and The Humane Society of the U.S. Continuous learning and growth have been the driving forces behind her expertise.

An Accredited Professional

Amanda Caron is recognized as an IAABC SBA (Shelter Behavior Affiliate), and her commitment to excellence is mirrored in her memberships with organizations like the Pet Professional Guild and The American Association of Feline Practitioners. Her contributions to the field are notable, with her first article on cat enrichment published in the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultant Journal in 2021, followed by contributions to Connecticut Dog Magazine and Rover.Com.

A Network of Excellence

Frisky Feline Behavior Counseling has cultivated a network of the best animal professionals in the community, including shelters, veterinarians, groomers, nutrition specialists, pet sitters, and fellow animal trainers. This diverse network has provided invaluable insights into various perspectives of animal care, enriching Amanda’s experience and understanding.

Changing Lives, One Cat at a Time

One of her most impactful cases as a professional cat behavior consultant exemplifies her commitment to transformation. Faced with a cat displaying destructive scratching and biting behaviors, the owner had tried numerous solutions in vain. Together, they uncovered the root causes of these behaviors and crafted a comprehensive action plan. Over eight weeks, the owner diligently followed the program, and the cat’s behaviors ceased entirely. The most heartwarming part? This feline friend was spared from being surrendered to a shelter and found their forever home, thanks to Amanda’s intervention.

Addressing Challenges, Providing Solutions

Amanda understands that not all cases are alike. Some behaviors, like spraying, can prove more challenging to resolve. In these instances, they maintain transparency with owners about realistic expectations. They embrace the concept of teamwork, often collaborating with their network of care professionals to achieve optimal results.

A Blueprint for Prevention

Amanda believes prevention is key to maintaining harmonious relationships with our feline companions. Her advice to cat owners is clear:

  1. Support your cat’s needs from day one.
  2. Prioritize their health, provide balanced nutrition, and create an enriching environment with spaces to climb, scratch, and play.
  3. Love them, cherish their presence, and be attuned to their needs.

Frisky Feline Behavior Counseling isn’t just about solving feline behavior issues. It’s about fostering understanding, compassion, and a deeper connection between humans and their beloved feline friends.
